Vein ligation and stripping is an operative procedure that actually removes your problematic varicose vein(s).  Before 2005, this procedure was the standard treatment for varicose veins (as performed by most physicians).  But, due to its less invasive nature and shorter recovery time, vein laser therapy (EVLT) has significantly reduced the utilization of this technique.  However, when the varicose vein anatomy is unusual, vein ligation and stripping may still be the best treatment option.
